rebeckaThis is my review on the book of Rebecka, When my mother was younger she used to read this book. She is a very religious lady. She has been searching everywhere for this book and she is very sick. I feel she has thought of herself as a rebecka in some way. And maybe wanted to be like her. Thanks so much... Keep up the great work at Amazon! Dar Vogit

River of Sky
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (August, 1994)

A well written bookI first came across this book as a story in a magazine. I enjoyed reading it so much I intended to go to the bookstore and buy it, but I never got around to it. Then 4 years later I came across that magazine again boxed up with some books and papers. I flipped through it until I found the story "River of Sky" and right then I looked the book up here on Amazon.com. Karen Harper has done a great job of weaving in the fictional characters so they fit into the story with the actual historical characters that lived in that day. The book had lots of nice twists, but also a great story. This is a book about self-discovery, following your dreams and your heart, and also about a tribe of Native Americans called the Mandan. Some of the actual historical events included in the book about the Native Americans are indeed very sobering, and sad. If you like books with romance, adventure and enjoy reading about the Native Americans in the early days of the frontier I recommend it to you.

Excellent storytellingThis is an excellent fantasy with real historical information regarding the true origins of the Saint Nicholas legends.
Told in a very entertaining manner. Complete with time travel and comedy and pathos all rolled into one enchanting story.
I look forward to this becoming a film or TV show or as it was originally written, as a play. Highly recommended for the entire family.

Simple's Uncle Sam
Published in Paperback by Hill & Wang Pub (May, 2000)
Average review score:

Langston Hughes gets 5 stars for this!!The life of poverty and discrimination is all about Simple, the character in Simple's Uncle Sam. He goes through everything and tells about it in his short stories. From his ideas for a Negro President to his ideas for an ugly contest instead of a beauty contest, this man's mind comes alive with explicit detail, description, and opinion.

The Sky Lord (Harper Monogram)

EnthrallingI picked this up at a used book store as the title intrigued me and it was set in medieval Scotland which is a period of history I enjoy reading about. Little did I know what I was in store for. As soon as I started the first chapter I was hooked and hooked good. Of course it is the story of a forced marriage like so many others but it set itself apart from many others I have read. The two main characters click almost immediately. This love story was written around Scotland's bid to gain her freedom from England but like so many others this love story does not get lost with the telling of history. I recently read Shannon Drake's "Seize the Dawn" (I have read many of her works and have enjoyed most of them)and unfortunately I could not relate to two main characters in the story and their love for one another as it was caught up in a history lesson. I enjoy history, in fact it was one of my favorite courses all through my years of schooling but when I read an romance novel I want to feel what the hero and heroine are feeling, as if you were really there. I want to envision the passion they share for one another as well as understand what life was like during that particular time period. A good historical romance writer has the ability use historical data and weave it around a sound romantic tale. I have to rate this up there with Elizabeth Lowell's "Untamed" and Heather Graham's "Golden Surrender" which are two of my most favorite novels. Emma Harrington gives you the opportunity to witness this tender, passionate and all consuming love between Isobel and Dallas. I wanted the book to go on and on. I will certainly try and find other works by this author and read them as well. If you have the opportunity to find this book grab it. You will be pleased, at least I was.

A Slender Thread (Harper Monogram)

A Buried Treasure! What a treasure I found in this out of print read. A true delight from beginning to end. The characters are warm, loving, hardworking individuals and the plot finely developed without the usual pitfalls that seem to plague so many romances, namely the Big Misunderstanding. The hero and heroine show us that nothing, including lack of money, will stand in the way of their love. If your tastes run towards high suspense and hot sensuality then this book might be a bit tame. BUT if you want a book that, when you turn the last page, leaves you sighing in pleasure with joy in your heart then this book is for you. It certainly found a place on my "Keeper Shelf".
